Cookbook- Raw Kale and Tuna Summer Salad
Kale and tuna summer salad

I use to overlook Kale due to its hefty texture, even when a packet of chopped curly kale managed to jump in to my shopping basket, it would sit right at the back of my fridge for weeks, not getting much use. But, since I've started using this Perennially popular, hearty greens in my morning smoothies, I am almost convinced, I love kale. This weekend, I managed to conquer my fears and experiment kale in its raw form for a lazy lunch for two.

So here's what you need:
  • 150g of sliced curly kale, stems removed, washed and dried.
  • 4 Snacking peppers (or 2 red Bell peppers), chopped
  • 1 can of tuna drained
  • 2 boiled eggs halved
  • 3 tbs of extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tbs of rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tbs of raspberry dressing (optional)
  • a handful of chopped walnuts
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • half a lemon
  • Drizzle the olive oil, rice wine vinegar and lemon over kale and give it a good massage. This step is quite important, as I find the acid in the vinegar breaks the sturdiness and makes it all tender and sweet.
  • In a large bowl combine kale, tuna, walnut and  peppers,  and add salt and pepper.
  • Serve it in individual salad bowls with the halved eggs and a drizzle of raspberry dressing for added sweetness.

The combination of sweet peppers, lemon and vinegar works great with kale for an ultimate tasty nutritious meal. It's perfect for days when you want to opt for a light lunch with less fuss and minimal cooking.

Project Use Up 2014- Beauty Products

Project Use Up 2014
Beauty products included in the Project Use Up 2014

I am a major commitment Phobe! Yikes! oh no not that way, just a commitment phobe towards materialistic things. Nope, no nothing else, I can assure you that. I have few half emptied skin care and beauty products lying around waiting to be used and all because of my bad habits. I tend to just accumulate stuff and most of them go unused as I move along to the next interesting thing I find. May be because I get bored? Or may be my lack of attention span? Or the fear of finishing it up too soon because I love it so much? There are a million other reasons that I cannot explain.

Yeah that's my commitment issue, hence I am sharing my second part of the "Project Use up 2014". (If you like to read the first part please follow this link)

This time, I am including skin care and a couple of hair products. I am planning to stick to my rules, it shouldn't be that hard, I hope.

Project Use Up 2014- Beauty Products

1.  Dr. Renaud Crème Douceur Framboise

This is a sample I received a few months back, and to be honest apart from couple of test runs I haven't used it as a face cream.  It has a quite nice gourmand smell to it and a soft application. According to the product description, the cream combines four types of raspberry extract which claims to provide nourishing protection throughout the day. I will probably use this up in a month tops.

2. Weleda One-Step Cleanser and Toner

I am all up for one-step cleansers, such as my oil cleansing method (I am hoping to share soon), it is an organic, all natural product packed with Witch hazel and Iris root. I love how it smells like lavender on my skin, very calming and relaxing, perfect for evenings. Having said that, I wouldn't probably purchase a full bottle once I am done.

3.Chanel Precision Body Excellence Revitalizing Smoothing Scrub

A little luxury in a tube, and I've had this for a while, because a little mean person in my head kept telling me to take it with me when I go on holiday; which never happened. So it's time to let go.

4. The Organic Pharmacy Enzyme Peel Mask

Hmmm.... still in its packaging so can't say a lot at this stage. This will replace my weekly mask, and will let you know how it goes. I did realise that the full size product comes in a hefty price tag of £49.99 for 40mls, which I am not ready to shell out :)

5. The Body Shop's Beautifying Olive Oil

I love me some lightweight scented body oil for summer months. This is quite the multitasker, you could use it on body, face (which I stay away from though) and hair. I'd like to add cuticles to the list too. Not a bad product but only restricted for warmer days as I have terrible dry skin.

6. Femme by Boss Body Lotion

Came in a gift set, and for some reason this one got left out. I think most of the time I forget to use it. Again not ultra moisturizing but the smell is divine, and a great way to extend the longevity of the perfume.

7. Ro's Argan Body Conditioner by Lush

I am hanging on to this like no tomorrow, why?? Because I love it so so much!! But that's not gonna serve its purpose I know. I reserve RO's Argan Conditioner for one of these ultimate pampering days. You are supposed to use in the shower like a normal hair conditioner, but on the body and wash it off. There's a down side though,  It could get a little messy, but it's all worth it. I'll be sad when I finish this.

8. Jennifer Lopez Miami Glow Perfume

Received this in a swap with another perfume fanatic. I am including Miami Glow because I am loving it at the moment. It's such a pretty perfume filled with tropical fruity notes, vanilla and soapy musk and a great everyday work wear too (Link here for an in-depth review)

9. VO5 Curl Defining Mousse

I believe this has been discontinued. Not a bad curling mousse, but I got fed up with it. I use this to enhance my natural waves and give it more definition and structure. Approximately 1/3 left so not long to go.

10. L'Occitane Rose 4 Reines Pearlescent Shampoo

I love L'Occitane's skin care line, and this is a  nice gentle everyday shampoo. I don't think my all time favorite Head & Shoulders will let me convert to this, nonetheless, it leaves my hair, soft and nourished.

Hope you enjoyed reading this post..... Have you done a project use up? Please feel free to share it down below.

Thank you for reading, have a great weekend!!

Out with the old, in with the new

My old pair of trainers just gave up on me last week.  I am embarrassed to admit that I've had those for nearly 9 years, yeah 9 years! That's ancient!! But that's the least I could say when they literally held through thick and thin.

So.. I bought myself a new pair!!  Needless to say that incorporating sporty footwear is very hip at the moment, but me being kind of  unconventional here, bought these only to wear at the gym. Hmmm...who knows I might even bust them out on a casual day.

I am so excited for my new Nike Free Run 5.0, the first thing I noticed was that, compared to my old pair it's quite small but absolutely comfortable. Already, I can imagine myself running errands in these. Stylish but functional is the way forward.

We all know that, correct footwear is extremely important when it comes to breaking a sweat. so I had to make sure I spent my money wisely and got a pair that really suited my needs.

While researching prior to my purchase, I came across Nike website which claims to have incorporated 'Nike free' technology to create natural flexibility and extra support for the sole. On this fact alone I was totally sold. May be I am so gullible? Only the time will tell.

My Current Read- June '14

Sometimes all you need is a good book and a cup of something-something (you know what I mean; what ever you prefer). Yesterday I popped in to my local library to pick up some reads and "This Dark Road To Mercy" by Wiley Cash managed to stop me in my tracks. The title itself and a quick flick through the pages were sufficient enough for me to justify, why I need this by my bedside.

I've only had couple of chapters to read and I am already hooked on it, hence the sudden blog post. This is my first novel from the author, Wiley Cash and if I am not wrong he's known for his good stories.

Here's a quote that grabbed my attention:
"You heard it today?" "No not today" he said " a while ago". " A while ago meaning you should've come to her funeral, what little bit of one she had? A while ago meaning you should've come and checked on us before now, before they put us in a home?"

Hope you have a lovely week ahead!

Favourite perfumes for Spring!!

Favourite perfumes for Spring

“Can words describe the fragrance of the very breath of spring?”
Neltje Blanchan

Now we are in June, right at the start of Summer, I feel like it's the best time to write a blog post talking about my most worn and loved perfumes for Spring. This is the time of the year where there's a transition from colder, winter months to warmer, summer months. Heavy orientals and smokey leather numbers are safely put away for another winter, and I bring out my light, airy and fresh florals to the table. It goes without saying that, crisp cooler nights and warmer sunny days brighten up my mood, and I find myself reaching for perfumes to match that change.

So here there are:

Femme by Hugo Boss

Femme by Boss is certainly one of my all time favourite perfumes. Even though I've put it down as one of top five Spring perfumes, I tend to wear it throughout the year. It's beautiful, romantic and what I reach for when I cannot decide what to put on that day.  Rose plays a major role in here, and combined with Freesia, Jasmin and Tangerine notes, this is a great uplifting and inoffensive fragrance. Not only Femme is a fabulous compliment getter, but also my dear other-half's favourite on me. It was first introduced to me by a good friend of mine back in 2008 and I haven't looked back ever since.

Do Son by Diptyque Eau de Toilette
Diptyque- Do Son Edt

Do Son was love at first sniff, I was swoon with Nostalgia as it took me right back to my childhood. Best of all I picked it up in a charity shop for an absolute bargain, I mean who doesn't love a good bargain. This is a sweet floral perfume, infused with white flowers such as Tuberoses and Orange-flower. I find Do Son to be less heady and indolic compared to its counterpart, tuberose themed perfumes. It takes on a much greener and slightly linear path, which makes it ideal to wear when the weather's a little warmer.

Eau des Merveilles by Hermès
Eau des Merveilles by Hermès

I have been totally obsessed over the Merveilles line lately, and adore their bottle design too . In my humble opinion Eau des Merveiilles  is absolutely breathtaking and unique with notes of Orange, Ambergris and Wood. Basically, matched with my skin chemistry, it's is a salty orange affair at the beach. Yes I said it right, It smells like a day out at the beach, where you sit and enjoy the salty sea breeze while having some oranges. Since it's quite strong and heady to start with, a spritz or two goes a long way.

 The Iceberg by Iceberg
The Iceberg by Iceberg

Here I have another spicy oriental great for spring evenings. This beauty is quite unusual and largely underrated. Iceberg opens up with fruity citrus notes and after few minutes, settles down to a creamy floral base with lots of Coriander and Pistachio. Although Coriander is very apparent here, I hardly detect any harshness, which can be due to Suede and Vanilla combo. Even though it's marketed towards Women, I believe that, a guy can totally pull this off too.

Eaudemoiselle de Givenchy
Eaudemoiselle de Givenchy
The combination of a beautiful elegant bottle and sophisticated scent stole my heart. This is one of my newest acquisitions and yet another love I have been devouring everyday. I find the scent to be quite complex with notes of Rose, Tangerine, Ylang-Ylang, Musk and Basil. Roses in here are very natural and powdery but manage to stay modern and trendy. I have to admit that, Eaudemoiselle is certainly not a girly perfume; but a well refined and elegant fragrance with character. The more I wear it the more I fall in love with it.

Hope you enjoyed the little insight in to what my favourite spring time perfumes are, what are yours? Please feel free to share them down below. Thank you!
